A 26-year-old man tried to end his own life at the Dane County Jail Thursday, making him at least the eighth inmate to attempt suicide since August.
The unidentified inmate used a prison-issued razor to cut his wrists and neck, but his attempt did not cause life-threatening injuries.
"Razors are provided to inmates for a short time in the morning for personal hygiene," Elise Schaffer, spokesperson for the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, told the Wisconsin State Journal.
The inmate left a suicide note before cutting himself. After nurses examined him at the jail, he was taken to the hospital, Schaffer said.
The investigation is ongoing.
