Conservative author calls for drastic changes in immigration

By: /The Daily Cardinal  - April 7, 2008

Conservative commentator Michelle Malkin spoke at Ingraham Hall Friday, stating U.S. immigration policy must be overhauled.

Malkin said current immigration policies need to be changed to better protect citizens.

“If we value our sovereignty, immigration must be treated first and foremost as a national security issue,” Malkin said.

She said UW-Madison senior Tope Awe, who was recently released from jail for being in the country illegally and has lived in the United States since she was three, should be deported.

Malkin said if people like Awe are allowed to stay in the country it encourages people to break immigration rules.

Terrorists and criminals, according to Malkin, take advantage of loose immigration policies, and more staff and funding are needed for federal immigration agencies.

Malkin herself is the daughter of immigrants, as her parents came from the Philippines before she was born. She is an author and blogger.
