The Campus Anti-war Network met Monday night to discuss and plan the upcoming protest of Halliburton’s presence at the College of Engineering Career Fair this Thursday.

The protesters will meet atop Bascom Hill at noon Thursday for a rally, and then march to the Engineering Building, where they will attempt to block the recruitment process, sitting and standing in front of the Halliburton booth.

“The UW Anti-war group is trying to do our part to build the most powerful student movement against the war,” said Chris Dols, C.A.N. member.

According to Dols, the student organization is going after Halliburton, trying to “take war profiteers off our campus.”

Halliburton has been in the news for its suspicious oil contract in Iraq, as well as possible fraud and serving the troops contaminated water.

More than a hundred people are expected to protest, according to group members. “Halliburton being here undermines the quality of my education,” Dols said.

“Halliburton is not an engineering company that UW students are preparing to work for. We want to help people, not organize the infrastructure of a military occupation, which is what Halliburton has done in Iraq.”

C.A.N. members said the organization is extending invitations to other campus groups to participate in the protest, including International Socialist Organization, The Black Student Union, Student Labor Action Coalition and Iraq Veterans Against the War.
