Volleyball sweeps Indiana, Illinois on road

The seventh-ranked Wisconsin volleyball team remained undefeated in Big Ten Conference play with a 30-15, 30-23, 30-26 victory over Indiana Friday and a 30-19, 30-24, 30-21 win over Illinois Saturday night.

The Badgers (10-2 overall, 4-0 Big Ten) dominated Indiana by hitting 38.9 percent for the match, while the Hoosiers hit just 11 percent.

Continuing the momentum from the night before, UW rolled past Illinois Saturday, dominating all aspects of the contest. The Badgers held nearly a two-to-one advantage in kills (63 to 32) and a dominant hitting percentage (.365 to .136) over the Illini.

Men's cross country wins Roy Griak Invitational

The Wisconsin men's cross country team won the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn., with 129 points and three top-10 finishes Saturday.

Badger freshman Matt Tegenkamp claimed the 8000-meter individual title in 23:58, while teammate Josh Spiker placed fourth in 24:17. Junior Isaiah Festa placed eighth in 24:23 only seconds behind his Badger teammates.

The Badgers, ranked sixth last week by the Mondo Men's Cross Country Poll, beat fourth-ranked Providence, 13th-ranked Portland and several Big Ten opponents for the team title.

Women's cross country finishes third in Stanford Invitational 4K

The Wisconsin women's cross-country team finished third with 69 points and two top-10 finishes in the Stanford Invitational 4000-meter short course Sept. 29 in Palo Alto, Calif.

Missing some of their top runners, the Badgers chose to only run the 4K race, instead of the 4K and 8K races, as originally planned.

Senior Bethany Brewster finished fourth overall, as she led the fifth-ranked Badgers with a time of 13:03.

The Badgers head to the Michigan Inter-regional in Ann Arbor, Mich., for their next competition Oct. 14.

Women's soccer goes overtime twice, but only earns one tie

The Wisconsin women's soccer team played Michigan State and Michigan this past weekend, with both contests going to overtime.

The game against the Spartans went to a 0-0 tie in double overtime Sept. 28 in East Lansing, Mich. UW is 1-0-2 in double overtime games this season.

Both teams' frustration was evident in the second half when the game started to get rough. Three Badgers received yellow cards in the closing minutes of regulation and in overtime. And in 30 minutes of overtime, UW racked up 10 fouls to MSU's nine whistles.

The Sept. 30 affair saw the scoreless streak in conference games continue for UW as Michigan forward Stephanie Chavez scored with less than five minutes remaining in the first overtime to raise the Wolverines overall record to 5-4 and 3-1 in Big Ten play.

The 3-4-2 Badgers return home this week for a weekend series against Iowa and Illinois, beginning Friday night.
