Major League Baseball had a record-setting year in 2001.
Led by Barry Bonds' record 73 home runs, several players and teams set new marks of excellence.
The Seattle Mariners recorded 116 wins, tying the all-time regular-season total in Major League history. The Chicago Cubs' pitching staff set the team strikeout record, while the Milwaukee Brewers hitting staff won the moredubious strikeout record, fanning 1,399 times.
Individual performances also highlighted the season. Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa hit 64 home runs, becoming the first player ever to register three career 60-home run seasons. Other highlights were Ricky Henderson breaking Ty Cobb's career runs-scored record and Roger Clemens becoming the first pitcher to start with a 20-1 record since 1900.
