Bush pushes for plan to help spur economy

President Bush urged Congress Wednesday to pass a package of tax cuts and additional spending worth up to $75 billion as part of an effort to boost the sagging American economy.

The Bush administration's proposal includes a mix of tax breaks for businesses, new money for state unemployment benefits and provisions for quicker implementation of tax cuts approved earlier in the year, The New York Times reported.

'One person laid off is one person too many,' Bush said in the Times report.
