Madison National Guard called to active duty

Under the partial mobilization authorized by President Bush Sept. 14, a group of 3,283 Army Reservists and Army National Guard members, including approximately 50 personnel from the 115th Security Forces Squadron of the 115th Fighter Wing in Madison, were ordered to active duty Thursday.

The troops are the second group of Wisconsin National Guard members ordered to active duty under the partial mobilization and the first from Madison. About 50 members of the 128th Security Forces Squadron of Milwaukee were also mobilized this week.

While some of the security forces will be sent to undisclosed locations, others will remain in Madison at Truax Field, the 115th Air National Guard Fighter Wing's air base.

The partial mobilization of Guard and Reserve forces is unrelated to the National Guard's ongoing security mission at seven Wisconsin airports, according to a statement released by the Wisconsin Army and Air National Guard public affairs office.

Nationally, the total current call-ups for the Army National Guard and Army Reserve include 7,765 soldiers. In addition, 12,722 members of the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, 2,250 members of the Naval Reserve, 2,770 members of the Coast Guard Reserve and 258 members of the Marine Corps Reserve have been called to duty.

Reserve and National Guard members called to active duty total 25,765 from 183 units in 44 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
