A co-worker of a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity member died at the TKE house Sept. 15. The man, who was not a student and whose name and age have not yet been released, is believed to have died of natural causes, with a formal report on the cause of death yet to be released.
'He was a co-worker of a member of the fraternity and they met out on State Street,' said Dustin Di Marco, president of TKE. 'They came back to the TKE house and there were about 15 people hanging out in the common area and he just collapsed. Several of the members started performing CPR and ... called 911.'
Di Marco said the paramedics continued doing CPR when they arrived but said there was not much they could do. He said police on the scene thought the man may have suffered from cardiac arrest.
'They told us 'It wasn't anything that you guys did. ... It just happened that he was in your house at the wrong time,'' he said.
Di Marco said the fraternity was working with Dean of Students Alicia Chavez, and University Health Services to help members cope with the situation.
