U.S. has no choice but to go to war against terrorism

When it comes to some people in this town, I seriously wonder if there are villages missing some of their idiots. I am referring to the peace protesters who are part of the Blame America First crowd. This group is comprised of Leftists, Marxists, Communists, Old Lincoln Brigadiers, Sandanistas and college professors. They've probably even dug up some wacky old wobbly guys to fill their ranks. You'll find that BAFs like to congregate on college campuses. Whether they are professors spouting the benefits of socialism or na??ve undergrads eating it up, you've got to love these people.

These moral relativists tend to have an interesting (and completely nihilistic) look on reality. After an Arab Muslim professor at a Florida university was suspended for holding fundraisers for Hamas, another professor was asked for comment. The professor said the only thing that mattered was that the students thought the man was a good computer science teacher. Raising money for terrorism was apparently irrelevant.

Has anyone noticed that if you ask these people what should be done instead of military action, they can't seem to form an answer? They fall back on 'building coalitions,' 'understanding underlying issues' and 'opening lines of communication.' We've done that, and got 6,000 murdered citizens for our trouble. Got anything else to contribute?

The Neville Chamberlains of the world would have you believe that compromise, not brute force, is the answer. Unfortunately, there are some people who only respect and live by violence in this world. Former British Prime Minister Chamberlain said that we should 'try to understand [the enemy's] mentality and remove the 'root causes' in order to avoid conflict.' That was in 1938, when the enemy with whom Chamberlain practically wanted to have tea was Adolf Hitler. Fortunately, Churchill understood that Nazi Germany was motivated by an intense hate, and that military force was the only thing Germans could understand and respect.

BAFs conveniently ignore the fact that the United States annually delivers enormous support to Third World nations in the form of money and food. They either ignore or don't know that our armed forces protected Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo, Kuwait and Somalia. I guess gratitude is the least remembered of all human emotions. In an editorial, the Washington Times wrote, 'not a single protester [seems] to be thankful for their hard-won freedom, that which enables protesters to spit in Uncle Sam's face.'

There is incredible evil in this world and there is no reasoning with it. As Washington Times Columnist Mona Charen wrote, 'One need look no further than the smoldering remains of Lower Manhattan and the Pentagon to be reminded that our flaws are trifles compared with the ferocious evil that blights other parts of the globe.' The peace anthem, John Lennon's 'Give Peace a Chance,' has reappeared. Peace is the ideal, but there are consequences for those who do not defend themselves. Never mind the fact that allowing oneself to get hit over and over again goes against human nature. Please, it's about time we give war a chance.

And what's up with this 'eye for an eye leaves everyone blind' nonsense? Let's get something straight'an eye for an eye just leaves everyone with one eye missing.

Dear BAFs, it didn't seem to bother you when you saw other people's mothers and fathers waving for help on top of the World Trade Center. How many people have to die for you to get the picture? We're all New Yorkers now, and fighting for the people who made Sept. 11 possible isn't going to wash.

Like Billy Joel once said, 'We didn't start the fire.'
