The UW System Board of Regents will meet this Thursday and Friday to discuss, among other topics, the UW System's investment strategies, and to analyze trends in public and private donations.
Kevin Boatright, assistant vice president for UW System Communications, said following a presentation on how the UW System invests its donated money, the board would be looking for public comment on the issue.
\There will be a presentation on socially responsible investing and a preview of emerging issues and the economic outlook for 2002, and then it will be open to public testimony,"" he said.
Boatright also said the board would look at the sources of investment dollars.
According to ""The Chronicle of Higher Education,"" UW-Madison ranked ninth in private donations and was first out of public schools in that category for 1999-2000.
Boatright said the board would discuss what strategy, as a whole, the UW System will have toward private and government funding.
""A fund-raising strategy for the UW System ... is something that's relatively new,"" he said. ""I think the focus is going to be a little bit on fund-raising at the rest of the System campuses.""
""We've created a federal relations council that consists of some chancellors and some other staff to try to address what ought to be the system's priorities and strategies in federal agencies,"" Boatright said. ""We're contemplating in January hiring a full-time federal relations coordinator.""
The Board of Regents will meet on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and again on Friday at 9 a.m. to review and approve actions taken on Thursday.
""People wishing to give public testimony should register in advance by calling 262-2324 and need to keep testimony to two minutes,"" Boatright said. ""They are encouraged to submit a written testimony.\
