Author Gore Vidal, best known for his historical fiction, has requested that his early papers be transferred from the Wisconsin Center for Film Research to Harvard University.
Although Vidal is better recognized for such works as \Burr,"" ""1876,"" and ""Lincoln,"" when he donated his papers to UW-Madison in 1966 he mainly wrote for screen, stage and television.
UW-Madison is selling the papers to Harvard for approximately $110,000, which reimburses the school for their upkeep, the Capital Times reported.
The Vidal collection includes correspondence with other well-known authors such as Upton Sinclair, Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner.
Vidal requested the documents be transferred to Harvard due to dissatisfaction in the manner in which the center in Wisconsin catalogued his work.
While UW-Madison had classified Vidal's papers by their date, Harvard plans to catalogue them by their subject.
The Wisconsin Center for Film Research is best known for its collection of United Artists film studio papers from the first 20 years of the studio's existence as well as its large collection of early Warner Bros. films.
