Apparently, 3-12 was not good enough for Brewers general manager Dean Taylor. Taylor fired manager Davey Lopes Thursday morning after the Brewers started 3-12, marking their worst start ever.
The Brewers have not had a winning season for nine years, tying them with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the unenviable record of teams without a .500-plus season.
The Brewers have not reached the post-season since they went to the World Series in 1982. Lopes will be replaced by Brewer bench coach Jerry Royster on an interim basis, but Taylor will begin searching for a long term replacement soon. Lopes was in the final year of his three-year year contract.
