Madison is tied with Washington, D.C., as the top city in the United States to access the Internet, according to a study released last week by The Media Audit.
The study examined 85 of the largest cities in the country and discovered that in both Madison and Washington, D.C., 73.4 percent of the population uses the Internet.
Ann Arbor, Mich., followed with a 70.2 percent usage.
In addition, 74.5 million adults, of approximately 128.3 million, logged on in the past month, an increase of 4.7 million from last year.
According to the report, an additional 30 markets have more than 60 percent of the population logging on, including Austin, Denver, Seattle and Tacoma.
Internet usage also increased by more than 3 percent between 2000 and 2001.
