Budget standoff could keep state from paying bills

If Wisconsin lawmakers do not settle their differences regarding the budget reform bill sitting in the Conference Committee soon, the government could find itself unable to pay some of its expenses, according to Republican sources. 

 

 

 

No compromise on how to solve the $1.1 billion budget deficit was reached today, though Republicans and Democrats did discuss campaign finance reform and agricultural details during their meeting today said Steve Baas, spokesperson for Assembly Majority Leader Scott Jensen, R-Waukesha, said. 

 

 

 

\There's really no deadline,"" Baas said. ""The administration has warned that we may have to be basically floating some IOUs for some state payments to get to July after a certain point, but they haven't been consistent on when that 'point' is.\
