With another semester upon us, we face the seemingly inevitable task of reasserting The Daily Cardinal's position as UW-Madison's oldest independent newspaper.
Readers of the other daily campus newspaper may have noticed an editorial published there in Thursday's issue that inferred a financial connection between The Daily Cardinal and UW-Madison. This is an inaccurate premise that seems to continually manifest each year, and with this note we would like to set the record straight once more.
The Daily Cardinal is a completely independent entity that sustains itself solely on advertising revenues with occasional capital contributions from staff alumni donations. In no way does this newspaper receive university or public funding.
