Doyle, McCallum eager to face off

The two major party Wisconsin gubernatorial candidates are ready and willing to engage in public debate but differ on when and where those discussions should take place.

Democratic candidate state Attorney General Jim Doyle will face off against current Republican Gov. Scott McCallum on three separate occasion in October, though both candidates have expressed desire for more opportunities.

\The real news is not that we disagree about a few of the dozens of invitations we've received, but that we have agreed on three significant debates,"" Doyle Campaign Director Bill Christofferson said. ""I believe that is more debates that there have been in a governor's race for 20 years.""

The three dates already agreed upon includes two in Milwaukee, Oct. 4 and Oct. 27, sponsored by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and WTMJ-TV, respectively. Both events will be televised statewide. The third discussion is tentatively set for Oct. 16 and is being put on by Wispolitics.com and the Western Wisconsin Press Club. This debate is the only one of the three to include Libertarian Candidate Ed Thompson and Green Party Candidate Jim Young.
