Friends of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries will host the largest used book sale in Wisconsin as part of their co-sponsorship of the Wisconsin Book Festival, Oct. 9 to 13.
The group collected donations of materials from UW-Madison faculty, staff, students and area residents.
More than 15,000 used books will be available to purchase at the sale. The largest collections cover history, women's studies, religion and philosophy, foreign languages, literature and art.
The used book sale is open to the public and will help fund the annual lecture series, special purchases for the libraries' collections, preservation projects and a visiting scholar support program.
In the past four years, more than $100,000 has been distributed to nearly two dozen libraries through a small grant program supported by the book sales.
A preview sale will be held Oct. 9 for a $5 admission. The regular sale, open to the public at no charge, will be held Oct. 10 to 11.
