The Badger men's soccer team (5-1 overall) experienced a new sensation this season: the feeling of a loss. The team dropped a 2-1 loss to Valparaiso Friday on Crusader territory.
The first period remained scoreless but both teams showed signs of life in the second, as Valpo sophomore forward Mark Korba notched a goal four minutes into the second period. Badger junior midfielder Erol Goknur scored UW's only goal 80 minutes into the game off a free kick, after being fouled by the Crusaders.
With only a few minutes left in the game, senior forward Ben Olson scored the game-winner on a header.
Sunday, however, proved to be a different story, as UW bounced back from a tough loss to defeat Illinois-Chicago. The Badgers, who led the Flames 3-1 75 minutes into the game, let their guards down, and the game went into double overtime.
True freshman forward Phil Doeh earned three of UW's four goals for his first hat trick of his collegiate career, including the game-winner in the 101st minute of the contest. Sophomore forward Nick Van Sicklen scored UW's second goal.
