The UW System's top employees will not likely see pay increases this year, according to UW Board of Regents member Fred Mohs.
Last year, despite financial strains caused by state budget problems and dissent from state lawmakers, UW System leaders received pay increases intended to bring them within 95 percent of median salaries for people in similar jobs across the country.
UW System President Katharine Lyall's salary increased $91,000 to $299,000 this year. That is more than $100,000 less than that of Mary Sue Coleman of the University of Michigan, whose annual base salary is $475,000.
UW-Madison Chancellor John Wiley is the highest paid employee in the UW System. His annual salary is $298,250, which includes more than $50,000 in private funds.
Mohs said the UW System still has a goal to get salaries close to the national median this year, but he said pay increases for top UW System employees should not be expected.
