The gubernatorial campaign of state Attorney General Jim Doyle, the Democratic candidate for governor, is under investigation for illegal campaigning Oct. 14 at the Dayton Hotel in Kenosha, Wis.
Robert Jambois, the Kenosha County district attorney, is currently looking into the possibility Democratic campaign workers used a bingo party, with coffee, soda and pastry, to bribe its long-term residents, some of which are cognitively disabled, to fill out absentee ballots. It is state law that individuals can not be bribed with anything of value over $1.
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin quickly issued a release stating none of the individuals involved in the event were Doyle employees and that the soda was provided by the Dayton Residential Care Facility. Angela Arrington, who put on the event, is a DPW staff member who coordinates multiple candidates' campaigns in the Kenosha area the statement said. The release also cleared Doyle from the association with local volunteer Frank Santapaolo, who helped with the event and conducted similar activities for both Republican and Democratic campaigns in the past according to the DPW.
Despite the Democrats statement, the Republican Party of Wisconsin said this was just the latest example of Doyle's corrupt politics and called for Jambois to remove himself from the case.
\It has come to our attention [Jambois] is not only a supporter of the Jim Doyle for Governor campaign, but is also a member of the Doyle campaign's steering committee,"" RPW chairman Rick Garber said in statement. ""Mr. Jambois must immediately remove himself and his office from any involvement in the investigation.\
