In Madison, Halloween is first and last among holidays. It's notorious among city officials, recalled fondly by alumni and celebrated enthusiastically by students.
Engaging in this fine tradition of revelry is practically a rite of passage for students on campus and we encourage you to go out and enjoy the spectacle. But where last year Halloween was a one-weekend sprint, the confusion about when to celebrate may result in a week-long endurance trial.
With that in mind, in whatever combination of the next 10 days you plan to celebrate, be sure to practice some caution as well.
Remember, a lot of people who don't go to school here will be visiting from out of town, so keep an eye out. Keep tabs on your drinks and your friends. Show respect for everyone else going out and practice discretion when you're thinking about doing something stupid.
And have a good time, too.
