Three Sellery Residence Hall students received harassing phone calls recently, one falsely citing the student organization Sex Out Loud.
The first two calls occurred early Sunday morning. A man requesting she \talk dirty"" called one resident at approximately 2:30 a.m. She could hear him masturbating and hung up the phone.
The second instance was a series of calls to another resident around 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The man, unkown to her, called her by name.
""He wanted my room number and asked if he could come up,"" she said.
She hung up the phone and has reported the incident to her housefellow.
A third resident was phoned Monday night around 10 p.m. The caller asked if the girl had five minutes to take a survey. She said no, but he pressured her, saying it would be a fun survey about masturbation. She said no again, but conceded to take the survey when he said it was for Sex Out Loud.
""He said, 'Come on, it's for Sex Out Loud,' so I figured it was for a good cause,"" she said. ""I said, 'Okay, fine, only because I have a friend in Sex Out Loud.'""
The man asked her how often she masturbates, which she refused to answer and hung up the phone.
The girl notified her housefellow of the incident as well as her friend at Sex Out Loud.
Representatives at Sex Out Loud were disappointed by these events.
""We would never call anyone over the phone,"" said Meghan Benson, Sex Out Loud project coordinator and UW-Madison junior.
Benson said that though the group discuses sex openly, they do so in a safe, comfortable environment. Benson said she wants students to know that if they do receive a similar phone call, it is harassment.
