A $3.5 million donation to the Wisconsin Advanced Internet Laboratory equipment and support will assist the organization in establishing itself as a primary Internet research facility in the United States.
The EMC Corporation is giving WAIL equipment and support such as software and hardware to assist in technology test in a mock-Internet environment.
WAIL is an 18-month old organization, including members of the UW-Madison Department of Computer Sciences, the UW-Madison Division of Information Technology and Cisco. WAIL allows researchers to reproduce portions of the Internet in a lab setting in order to test technological breakthroughs in a controlled environment.
The donation includes two Symmetrix Networked Storage Systems, which store large amounts of data and are frequently used by large corporations.
