My heart broke last Friday when U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash in northern Minnesota. Wellstone was my favorite senator, as well as the most sincere, honest politician we have ever known.
He always held himself to the highest standards, reflecting seriously on every issue and voting only as he knew was right. Jabbing his finger into the air and bouncing across the room with uncontrollable energy, he would yell that he represented \the little fellers, not the Rockefellers,"" and he has little feller friends across the country to prove it.
Although Wellstone was a staunch liberal, he encouraged people of all political persuasions to become involved in politics. As long as you had strong beliefs and acted on them, he was happy.
I urge you to remember Wellstone by acting on your principles and involving yourself in politics in any way you can. We can make a difference like Wellstone did. We can carry it forward.
