Police fine suspect for 'joke' phone calls to Witte Hall

UW Police named a suspect Thursday in an investigation regarding harassing phone calls made to Witte Residence Hall housefellow Daniel Steinbring. 

 

 

 

Steinbring, who is African American, reported the calls, which included racial slurs, to UW Police Oct. 8. 

 

 

 

Sherafgan K. Sharwani, 20, admitted he called Steinbring as a \joke."" Sharwani, who is Asian, lives in Madison but is not affiliated with UW-Madison. 

 

 

 

Sharwani and Steinbring told police they consider each other friends. 

 

 

 

UW Police cited Sharwani with improper use of the telephone, which carries a $287 fine.
