Wisconsin's final two gubernatorial candidates spent more than $6 million on television advertising in the states three largest media markets, while airing nearly 20,000 ads, in their attempt to win votes according to the final findings of Wisconsin Advertising Project.
Governor-elect Democratic state Attorney General Jim Doyle, along with outside support, spent approximately $3.5 million, while Gov. Scott McCallum ran up a $2.7 million bill in Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay.
The costs are conservative estimates according to the Wisconsin Advertising Project.
Most of the ads were run after the primary, with Doyle running 6,504 of his nearly 11,000 ads after he won the Democratic primary.
Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk ran the second most ads in the Democratic Primary. With the help of an independent group she ran more than 3,200 ads.
McCallum ran more than five-eighths of his political ads after the primary.
