The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team (2-2 Big Ten, 12-4 overall) defeated Ohio State 53-52 Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. Senior guard Kirk Penney hit a floating shot with 7.4 seconds remaining. On the other end of the floor, freshman forward Alando Tucker blocked Ohio State senior guard Brent Darby's last second shot to preserve the victory.

In addition to his game-saving block, Tucker paced the Badgers with 15 points and played 35 tough minutes inside, because junior center Dave Mader sat out with an ankle that he injured against Minnesota.

The UW women's hockey team (5-5-4 Western Collegiate Hockey Association, 12-5-4 overall) split games against the No. 2 ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth (12-1-1 WCHA, 16-2-2 overall), winning the opening game of the series 2-1 Friday and dropping the second 4-1 Saturday.

In the first game, the Badgers burst ahead through first period goals by junior forward Meghan Hunter and sophomore defenseman Molly Engstrom, and held on to win behind 24 saves by senior goalie Jackie MacMillan.

The next night, the Bulldogs started off quickly, scoring twice in the opening session. The Badgers were able to trim the margin to 2-1 in the second period after junior forward Steph Millar scored her sixth goal of the season, but UMD responded with two more goals of its own. Despite making 31 saves, MacMillan's (and the team's) 10-game unbeaten streak ended dramatically.
