The Madison Fire Department is still investigating a fire that occurred early Monday morning in The Towers, 502 N. Frances St.
According to Assistant Fire Chief Carl Saxe, new information will prolong the investigation. Saxe said the residents of the burned room left their room vacant and unlocked for a period before the fire was reported.
\So unfortunately our investigation will have to look at every possibility,"" Saxe said. ""They've looked at the careless use of smoking materials, but they also have to look at more serious things.""
Steve Brown, owner of The Towers, said Monday the residents of the burned room had been moved to another room.
Benjamin Curtis, who plays Steven the ""Dell Dude"" in television commercials for Dell computers, was arrested Sunday night on the Lower East Side of New York and charged with buying marijuana.
Wearing a tuxedo top and kilt after ducking out of a party with a Scottish theme, Curtis, 22, was arrested after officers spotted him buying marijuana, police said.
After spending the night in jail, Curtis, looking worn, had his case adjourned in contemplation of dismissal Monday by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Ellen Coin. If he stays out of trouble for a year, the case will be dismissed.
The Student Services Finance Committee again failed the budgets of five student organizations, which were discussed in conference committee Feb. 1.
SSFC and the Associated Students of Madison Student Council previously denied budgets for Safe Arrival for Everyone Nighttime Services, Wunk Sheek, Diversity Education Specialists, the Multicultural Student Coalition and the Asian Pacific American Council.
The budgets failed in a vote of 5-6-1 on the entire package. Now the budgets must go before the conference committee again. Ultimately, the budgets must be approved by SSFC and Student Council to be effective.
