UW-Madison Badger men's hockey captain Brad Winchester was arrested early Sunday morning for punching a police officer in the face.
Winchester, a UW-Madison senior, was arrested outside the Kollege Klub, 529 N. Lake St., shortly after 2 a.m. when Officer Caleb Bedford tried to break up a fight between Winchester and another person, according to a Madison Police Department press release. Winchester punched Bedford in the nose several times and was charged with Battery to a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct.
Ninety-seven people died last Thursday night in a fire at a nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island when the '80s metal band Great White set off pyrotechnics in the Station nightclub.
Over the weekend, investigators interviewed bands, pressed the owners to be more cooperative and imposed a moratorium on pyrotechnics at small clubs and auditoriums holding fewer than 300 people.
Jesica Santillan, the 17-year-old recipient of a botched organ transplant, died Saturday at the Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Doctors, who mistakenly had transplanted organs with the wrong blood type, declared Santillan brain dead at 1:25 a.m. EST and removed her from life support at about 5 p.m., medical center spokesman Richard Puff said.
Physicians legally removed Santillan from life support without her parents' permission, but the family wanted a second opinion about her chances of recovery before removing her from life support. It is not clear if they were able to bring in an outside doctor or if the university officials would wait for such a consultation.
