Armed man robs Greenbush

An armed robber targeted the campus-area doughnut haven Greenbush Bakery, 1305 Regent St., Friday night.

According to a police report, the suspect entered the bakery shortly before midnight and threatened the lone employee with a black revolver. The suspect told the employee to lay down on the floor and then opened the cash register and took out an undisclosed amount of money. He fled the scene on foot.

No one was injured in the incident.

\It's not only traumatic for the person it happened to, it's traumatic for my wife and I as business owners-we run a good business here,"" owner Marv Miller said. ""We're going to catch this person,"" he later added.

Police said Sunday that no new evidence had emerged in the investigation. Miller said he had given police security camera footage and they are still investigating. Although only one employee was working during the robbery, Miller said he did not intend to change his scheduling plan in response to the incident.

""We have security in place, we always have, but this is one of those things it wouldn't have mattered if you'd had three people sitting there ... usually we're so full of people at night, but this happened when there was a lull in the customer flow,"" he said.

Tony Klemme, an employee next door at Rocky Rococo's, 1301 Regent St., said Rocky's employees often go next door at night to check on Greenbush employees. Klemme drove the pizza delivery car Friday night, but said he did not witness the robbery.

Miller said the Regent street area is not particularly safe, but nothing like this has ever happened at his bakery in the seven years it has been on Regent Street. Ryan Debold, an assistant manager at Toppers, 1368 Regent St., which is across the street from Greenbush, said he has also never had a similar situation, although he sometimes works alone late at night. Toppers closes at 3 a.m.

""Yeah, when I'm working by myself on nights like that, I do kind of keep an eye out,"" he said.
