Marine biologists discover colossal squid off coast of New Zealand

A colossal squid, named after its size and aggressiveness, was caught off the coast of Wellington, New Zealand, marine biologists reported Thursday.

According to the BBC news online, the 330 pound, 16-foot young female squid is the second of its kind to be found intact and only grown to half its size. The squid was killed in the capturing process.

This larger species of squid is more aggressive than the less-elusive giant squid and has been known to attack prey and predators with its large beak and razor-sharp hooks located along its tentacles.

\Giant squid is no longer the largest squid that's out there. We've got something that's even larger, and not just larger but an order of magnitude meaner,"" said Steve O' Shea, squid specialist at New Zealand's Auckland University of Technology.
