The UW System will have to cut twice as much of its administrative budget as previously planned to help make up for a $454 million state budget deficit this fiscal year, the state's Joint Finance Committee ruled Wednesday.
The System had submitted a proposal to cut $8.2 million, including $8.03 million in general program operations at the different campuses, $177,100 in system administrative costs and $19,700 from the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.
The Finance Committee voted 9-7 to restore the funding to the veterinary lab and also to restore $341,400 in general program operations to the campuses, while deleting an additional $361,100 from system administration.
