Police charge suspect in connection with Stillwaters shooting

The Madison Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with the March 10 shooting at Stillwaters, 250 State St., according to a report in the April 8 The Capital Times.

The criminal complaint, filed Monday, charged Altwan D. Cross, 33, with three counts, including attempted first-degree homicide, endangering safety with the use of a dangerous weapon and substantial battery.

Cross was booked into Dane County jail Monday. Police had already charged him with substantial battery for hitting a victim in the head with the butt of his gun, but they took longer to link him with the shooting.

According to the complaint, about 100 people were in the bar at the time of the shooting. The complaint also stated that the victim, Hernandis Banks, 23, had a bullet wound in his leg and another wound where a bullet grazed his left arm.

Police said Banks and Cross had an altercation prior to the shooting. Banks told police the fight was an extension of an argument that occurred several days earlier at The Annex, 1206 Regent St., between Banks' cousin, Ricky Burks, and Cross.
