Scientists at the British Columbia Cancer Agency broke the genetic code of the virus believed to be causing Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. The team of scientists worked 24 hours a day using computers to sequence the genome and was successful after just six days.
The virus is a completely new coronavirus which is unlike any human or animal viruses. Because of the break, scientists hope to develop a rapid test that will be able to detect the virus earlier.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta have also been working on the genetic code and said they will soon have the same results.
