Walking through Memorial Union the middle of last week, I noticed that the Arcade Games looked rearranged. Upon further investigation, my worst fears were realized-Gauntlet Legends was gone. There was no note to say why it had been removed or where it had gone. The impact of this loss is soon going to be felt all around campus.
For those not familiar with this game, it is one that teaches the young of the university valuable life lessons. Advice like \Avoid Dangerous Objects"" and, ""Collect gold to buy Power-ups"" are valuable lessons I will take to the grave. For a university that is trying to repair an image as a party school they are quick to remove such a viable alternative to binge drinking. How many lives are in jeopardy now as once innocent college students now deprived of a weekend activity, instead turn to many, many cases of beer?
I request that the university releases a statement with not only motives behind removing the game but also its new location. If the game has been sold I request that the money be divided up and dispersed as a tuition reduction for all students. Hopefully the university can make the right decision.
