Gridiron hangover

Someone please pinch me because I think I might be dreaming. I need someone to verify that the fireworks I saw Saturday night above the north end zone were not an illusion. And that the picture ingrained in my mind of the scoreboard reading BADGERS 17, BUCKEYES 10 with all of Camp Randall singing Varsity was more than a dream.

I mean, did the football team on this glorious campus beat the defending National Champions who were riding the nation's longest current winning streak? Did they just catapult themselves to a No. 12 ranking, not to mention a 3-0 start in the Big Ten?

I just can't get over it. I am still having football hangover from Saturday night, a night that will go down as one of the greatest sporting events this campus has seen. Don't believe me? Alvarez said it himself!

\I thought the atmosphere tonight may have been better than the night we clinched the Rose Bowl and Ron broke the record. I thought every snap they were at a fever pitch. There was never a play that the fans took off. It was that way when we took the field and for the entire ball game. I've never seen an atmosphere where it was prolonged like this one.""

It got to the point where I have refused to wear anything but cardinal and white. For the love of god, I almost swapped jerseys with two friends to ensure that I would have a Badger jersey to sport all week.

The best part is that this is just the beginning. It all continues this weekend when the 13th ranked Boilermakers invade ""The Camp."" This game is big enough to begin with, as it pits two of the three undefeated teams in the Big Ten. Add that to the fact Lee, Kirk and Chris will be here for pregame activities and you have another magical Saturday in Madison.

You can call me crazy and you might be right, but this is the moment that I have been waiting for since I arrived on this campus just three short years ago.

Wait, hold on a second. Please let me rephrase the beginning of that last sentence, this is the moment that ALL of us have been waiting for! The time has returned when the essence of college football will be displayed at ""The Camp"" for our final three home games.

If things work out, every home football game in the Big Ten will have two top 25 teams participating. Did you think GameDay coming for the first time since 1999 was good news? Well how about this headline for Nov. 17... ""GameDay returns to Madison for second time this season for No. 4 Wisconsin against No. 5 Iowa.""

Maybe I AM dreaming. Maybe someone DOES need to wake me up. But at this point I am on cloud nine, and I don't plan on coming down any time soon.

As Jim Leonhard so eloquently put it... ""THIS is why everyone came to this school!\
