I have been enthusiastically watching Major League Baseball's playoffs and have noticed something very disturbing about the broadcasters. People are focusing once again that the flaw in baseball is that the New York Yankees are once again in the World Series, and that they have bought their talent while smaller markets cannot compete and that this wealth gap between clubs is unfair. I have found something more unjust: though Hispanic and Hispanic-American players comprise a large and growing percentage of the league, the media have not reflected this in their commentators. The NBA and NFL, who both have strong African- American presences, have at least one commentator on the pre-game show or during the games. I commend their efforts and think that although not all programs reflect the league's demographics, they have improved in the last twenty years. The MLB media has neglected this change in demographics and this is one more issue the league must confront. Commissioner Bud Selig, the owners, and especially the players association must put pressure on the national media to place a Hispanic in a prominent role giving commentary and personal interviews with the Hispanic players of the league.
