The Student Services Finance Committee approved full budget requests for WSUM and Vets for Vets Wednesday night.
WSUM received $277,000 for a year of operational costs and Vets for Vets received $32,000. SSFC Chair Aaron Werner said those budgets passed with relatively little controversy and 45 minutes of discussion each.
But SSFC questioned two other student groups, Wisconsin Public Interest Research Group and Division in Education Programming, for more than an hour each, Werner said. Their eligibility will be decided in a meeting Monday, Oct. 6.
For example, Werner said, the SSFC members wanted to know why WisPIRG needs to send its members to conferences around the state.
A car wreck 60 miles west of Chicago killed seven people and injured 15 Wednesday, according to CNN.
The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Interstate 90 when a tractor-trailer did not slow down, police said. The tractor-trailer rammed into another tractor-trailer, which hit a bus filled with members of the group International Women Associates. Another tractor-trailer hit a truck.
Victims were airlifted to area hospitals by helicopter. The wreck backed up traffic for three hours on both sides of the interstate.
