SSFC faces suit appeal, OKs MCSC budget

The Legal Information Center, a UW-Madison student organization, appealed to the Student Judiciary Monday night in opposition to the Student Services Finance Committee's decision not to accept LIC's funding eligibility request.

Representatives of the LIC, who did not apply for eligibility on time, argued they did not know their organization was up for eligibility. They said SSFC chair Aaron Werner passed out a list last spring of groups that needed to apply, and the LIC was not on the list.

The LIC also objected to receiving a mass e-mail with instructions for groups whose turn it is to apply as their means of notification.

SSFC representatives argued LIC was on the list of groups to apply and the e-mail should have been sufficient, as it was sufficient for other groups.

The Student Judiciary has two weeks to decide on the matter.

Additionally, after two meetings of debating its budget, the SSFC granted $443,223 to the Multicultural Student Coalition. The MCSC had requested $673,984.69.

The MCSC has a tumultuous relationship with SSFC, starting two years ago when a near million-dollar request was roughly cut in half.
