Michigan State gave Wisconsin a run for its money as regulation ended at a 1-1 tie. However, freshman defenseman Jeff Likens scored his first collegiate goal to give Wisconsin a 2-1 victory. Fellow freshman Brian Elliott was in goal for the Badgers for the second time this season. He had 29 saves in the contest.

Wisconsin Head Coach Mike Eaves also announced Mark LeRose has been appointed assistant coach for the Badgers. LeRose will replace John Hynes' who departured to the USA Hockey's National Team Development Program.

Women's Basketball

The Badgers (2-1) won their first tournament under Head Coach Lisa Stone as they won the Conesto/Coconut Grove Thanksgiving Classic in Miami Saturday. In the first round, UW defeated Hampton (0-3) 49-38. Hampton shot 23 percent from the floor and lost the rebounding battle to the Badgers, but Wisconsin turned the ball over 23 times to keep the game within reach for Hampton.

In the championship game Saturday, Wisconsin defeated the Butler Bulldogs (1-4) 61-46. Badger sophomore forward Jordan Wilson scored 13 points and nabbed 15 rebounds to bring home Most Valuable Player honors. Senior center Emily Ashbaugh scored 22 points in the victory.

Although junior guard Stephanie Rich was held to only three points in the championship game, she dished out seven assists as Ashbaugh and senior center Lello Gebisa were able to get easy buckets.

\Our post players gave us some scoring, but I cannot say enough about Jordan Wilson,"" Stone said. ""She changed the whole game; she came in and gave us energy, intensity and she gave us rebounding like there was no tomorrow.""

Wrestling

The No. 19 Wisconsin Badgers were victorious in both attempts this weekend, defeating No. 16 Northern Iowa Friday and Northern Illinois Saturday. Northern Iowa lost 24-13 to UW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, while the Badgers won at home 27-9 against the Huskies.

""Today went pretty well and the wrestlers came out pretty hard today just like yesterday. We wrestled aggressively and overall I'm pretty happy,"" said Wisconsin Head Coach Barry Davis.
