The Auburn Tigers (7-5) will face the Wisconsin Badgers (7-5) in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl Dec. 31 in Nashville, Tenn.
\We are pleased and honored to announce the Auburn Tigers as our SEC representative,"" said Joe Kelley, chairman of the Music City Bowl. ""An Auburn and Wisconsin match-up, two traditional powerhouses, is exciting and should make for a great game.""
Both Wisconsin and Auburn are mirror images of each other, featuring strong running games and stingy defenses.
The Music City Bowl will be televised live on ESPN 11 a.m. CST.
Men's hockey
The Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team stayed unbeaten in their last 12 contests, tying the Denver Pioneers Friday night 2-2, and winning Saturday night 3-1 at the Magness Arena in Denver. The Badgers have a 8-0-4 mark in their last 12 games and have now moved into third place in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Friday night was a hard-fought battle between the two squads. Going into the third period there was no score from either team. The first score of the game came 5:46 into the third on a goal from UW freshman forward Robbie Earl. Wisconsin then notched another score, this time from sophomore center Nick Licari, to make it a 2-0 game with less than 10 minutes left in the contest. Denver stormed back though, and within a one-minute stretch, scored two goals to tie the contest at 2-2.
Wisconsin and Denver kept the game close Saturday night through two periods, much like the night before. Wisconsin did not put away Denver until the third period when sophomore forward Ryan MacMurchy and freshman forward Jake Dowell both scored to give UW a 3-1 victory.
Women's basketball
The Wisconsin women's basketball team (3-3) rebounded from two straight loses with a 76-73 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones (3-2) Sunday.
The Badgers jumped out to a 16-point halftime advantage but saw that lead evaporate late in the second half before sophomore guard Ashley Josephson hit the game-winning basket with four seconds remaining to give Head Coach Lisa Stone her first home victory. Josephson, who finished with 13 points despite playing only 20 minutes, completed a three-point play as she was fouled while making a lay-up.
Senior forward Lello Gebisa led the Badgers, who had all five starters in double figures, in scoring and rebounding with 17 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Ebba Gebisa chipped in 11 points of her own and dished out six assists while junior guard Stephanie Rich led the Badgers with eight assists to go along with her 10 points.
