No. 4 lady icers split weekend series with No. 2 Golden Gophers
The Wisconsin women's hockey team (14-5-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association, 18-5-3 overall) remain deadlocked with Minnesota atop the WCHA standings after splitting the weekend series with the Golden Gophers. The Badgers took the first game 2-1 in overtime but ended up on the wrong side of a 2-1 game on Valentine's Day, snapping Wisconsin's 10-game unbeaten streak. Before Saturday, the last time the women's team had lost was Dec. 5 in Duluth.
The hero for the Badgers on Friday was junior defender and team captain Carla MacLeod, who scored an unassisted goal at the 2:20 mark in overtime to give the Badgers a short-lived hold on first place in the WCHA. UW fell behind midway through the second period on a power play goal by Minnesota sophomore forward Krissy Wendell. The Gophers lead was short-lived, as UW freshman forward Sara Bauer continued her freshman campaign, putting Wisconsin on the board three minutes after Minnesota's first goal. UW sophomore goalie Meghan Horras played a vital role in the team's victory, allowing only one goal and stopping 20 shots.
Freshman forward Lindsay Macy scored UW's only goal on Saturday as the Golden Gophers were able to put constant pressure on the Badger defense, leading to a 38-28 shot advantage for Minnesota. The fans at Ridder Arena were treated to a little deja vu as Wendell scored the first goal of the game again, only to have UW score minutes later. Minnesota's first period lead only lasted for a 25 seconds as Bauer and Macy teamed up to put Wisconsin on the board. The stalemate lasted until 6:43 in the third period when Gopher junior forward Noelle Sutton put the Golden Gophers ahead for good.
UW will host Niagara at the Kohl Center Friday and Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. both days.

Women's tennis win both weekend matches
Depaul and Marquette both fell to the hands of Wisconsin this weekend as the Badgers get over the .500 mark at 5-4 overall in match play.
Depaul (6-5) gave the Badgers a run for its money, but UW was able to win through the strength of its double's program. Wisconsin took the doubles point with victories in the top two matches, and split the singles matches 3-3 to take the victory from the Blue Devils.
\Despite the fact that half the people, at this very moment, don't feel as good as they would like to feel; the fact is, we got the win for the team,"" Head Coach Patti Henderson said.
Wisconsin then went on to beat Marquette Saturday night 5-2 at the Marquette Sports Complex.
