Madison police arrested a 35-year-old man with a history of burglary and theft convictions Sunday in connection with the string of burglaries near the West Side, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.

Police hope to match the stolen goods recovered with their respective owners. Jewelry, compact discs, DVDs and electronic equipment are among the stolen items in police custody.

Targeted areas in the city include the neighborhoods north of Lake Wingra and around West High School as well as neighborhoods in the South Mills Street, South Park Street and West Washington Avenue vicinities.

However, police do not believe the man arrested is the only suspect responsible for the more than 50 burglaries that began in the area just before Christmas.

UW-Madison received $75,000 to be used as financial aid for students studying abroad, International Studies Dean Gilles Bousquet announced Thursday.

The funding comes from the Vince Club Family Foundation and will sponsor study abroad programs for students' entire academic year, according to a press release.

The Vince Club Family Foundation contributed the funds for yearlong programs overseas. The main contributor to the grant is alumna of UW-Madison's Nepal study abroad Gigi Pritzker Pucker, the release said.

The funds will be distributed over the next three years. Each of five qualifying students per year can receive up to $5,000 of the donation.

To qualify, students must show financial need and academic success, according to the release.
