A UW-Madison student was charged Thursday in Dane County Circuit Court for allegedly producing false driver's licenses and selling them to underage students.
Police searched the West Gilman Street apartment of William Knowles, 20, in July, for an unrelated investigation in which a computer was stolen from his apartment.
In the process, police discovered false identification cards as well as color digital facial images and a list of names and amounts of money owed on a computer in his apartment.
Those students listed told police they bought the fake driver's licenses from Knowles.
Knowles is scheduled to appear in Dane County Circuit Court March 1.

UW-Madison's 18-hour Dance Marathon, which took place Friday and Saturday, ended an hour and a half before its scheduled time due to a poor turnout.
All profits from Dance Marathon benefit children with AIDS and proceeds go to the UW Children's Hospital, Camp Heartland and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
However, Dance Marathon only drew out approximately 20 dancers at its start. That number had decreased to six approximately 16 hours later, when the event ended.
Coordinators said they were unsure how much money they raised, but last year they raised $15,000, a humble amount compared to other universities that sponsor Dance Marathon.

Building trades members, who supported a casino at the DeJope bingo hall, 4002 Evan Acres Rd., criticized Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's campaign against a casino last week, according to The Capital Times.
Executive Director of the Building and Construction Trades Council of South Central Wisconsin Scott Vaughn said Cieslewicz refused to discuss union support of the casino, adding unions were disappointed with the Mayor's lack of support for labor.
Mayoral spokesperson Melanie Conklin said she does not remember Vaughn requesting an appointment, and said she does not see a link between Cieslewicz's opposition to the casino and support for unions.
Associated Students of Madison Chair Austin Evans issued a statement today declaring Feb. 23 \ASM Day"" for the UW-Madison student body and campus organizations.
Today marks UW-Madison's official student government's 10th anniversary.
When ASM began in 1994, founders established it to allow students to have a voice and control on campus. According to Evans, ASM has kept a keen focus on serving the student body since its founding.
