If you still have the democratic fever after our recent primary, and if the only thing that can cure it is more voting, you should head to Luther's Blues this Sunday and cast your rock 'n' roll vote between eight bands for WSUM's battle of the bands.
Each band will play a short set and the audience will judge and pick the two best bands. The eight bands, selected by an online poll on WSUM's Web site, include BRP, The Orin Project, Urizen, Sunshine Policy, This is the End, One Shot Deal, Zero to Sixty Never and Sold Separately. The two winners will play an opening slot at Party in the Park on April 24 at James Madison Park.
\From the sounds of it, there are going to be some really good bands competing at Luther's this Sunday,"" said Orin Project saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Sinclair. ""For anyone who appreciates good music, Luther's is going to be the place to be Sunday.""
Urizen, another band battling on Saturday, describe themselves as ""not your older sisters's ska band.""
""Urizen should win because chicks dig bands that win, and we are lonely,"" said guitarist and vocalist Nick Sergenian.
Zero to Sixty Never, a five-piece pop punk band, appealed to their talent instead of their solitude.
""We have an energy in our live shows that I haven't really seen in most local bands,"" said guitarist Adam Dettwiler. ""People see good bands and they're like 'wow they were good.' I'm hoping that when people come to see us they leave saying 'wow, did you see that singer going nuts and the drummer rocking out?""
Andrew Conway, vocalist for Sold Separately, concealed his bands game plan, ""All I can say is let the show speak for us.""
The two victorious bands from Sunday's battle will join The Heavenly States, Space Camp, Something To Do and The German Art Students, who are already confirmed to play Party in the Park.
