Huskie, Cowboy, Yellow Jacket and Blue Devil fans will swarm San Antonio, Texas next weekend as the NCAA Final Four schedule was finalized Sunday.
Duke is the only No. 1 seed still alive in the Big Dance. The Blue Devils, on the heels of Shelden Williams' double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds, made it out of the Atlanta regional. Xavier could not keep their Cinderella story going, getting knocked out after beating No. 2 Mississippi State and No. 3 Texas before losing to No. 1 Duke.
Opposing Duke in the Final Four will be Connecticut, a No. 2-seed from the Phoenix bracket. Connecticut made it into the Big Dance knocking off upset-minded Alabama 87-61 Saturday. Huskies junior guard Ben Gordon lifted the Huskies with 36 points from the field, one shy of a career-high.
Cowboy Head Coach Eddie Sutton and his Oklahoma State squad will represent the East Rutherford region after beating St. Joseph's 64-62 Saturday. Junior guard John Lucas nailed a three-point basket with just seven seconds remaining to give OSU a two-point advantage. St. Joseph's senior guard Jameer Nelson could not do the same, though, as the Red Hawks lost their second game of the season.
St. Louis regional-victor Georgia Tech edged out the Kansas Jayhawks 79-71 Sunday. Though many believed that the Jayhawks were more tournament-tested, and therefore more prepared for the game, Tech sophomore guard Jarrett Jack led all scorers with 29 points, including 13 of 14-made free throws from the charity stripe.
