UW men's hockey head coach Mike Eaves was honored as the coach of the year by United States College Hockey Online Tuesday. Freshman defenseman Ryan Suter was named to the All-USCHO freshman team while senior defenseman Dan Boeser received the Unsung Hero award.
Eaves led the Badgers to a 22-win regular season, nine more than last season, in his second year as head coach. He also led UW back into the NCAA championship tournament, beating Ohio State in the first round and losing to Maine in overtime of the East regional finals.
Suter, a first-round draft pick of the National Hockey League's Nashville Predators, led all Badger defensemen with 16 assists. Boeser, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma prior to last season, captained the Badgers this year and led UW defensemen with 22 points and eight goals.
