Reggae act parties for a cause

Natty Nation will literally help raise the roof at a benefit concert for the Dane County chapter of Habitat for Humanity this Saturday.

\Our goal is to increase awareness and funds for Habitat for Humanity. The benefit is a fun way for students to become aware and involved,"" said Kimberlee Koth of Habitat for Humanity. ""Natty Nation's positive and socially related lyrics go along well with Habitat's message.""

Natty stresses Habitat's message of ""bringing the community together to build homes with God's people in need"" by donating all of the ticket sales and a portion of their merchandise sales to Habitat for Humanity.

""Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful organization. I have provided music for past events and we would like to bring in money to try and help,"" said Aaron Konkol from Natty Nation.

According to Natty Nation, the band will use the music scene to spread a positive vibe unifying the community in efforts to raise money to build new homes in Dane County. The concert will include two long sets of their music, special guests, old material and new material to be debuted.

""We will play a lot of old favorites and go farther back into the Natty songbook to material we have not played in a while or to songs we don't play often,"" Konkol said. ""Our new material consists of a hip-hop section in the second set, which is a new territory we're going into.""

Habitat for Humanity takes a stand against substandard housing situations in the community. The organization fixes housing problems by building quality, simple and affordable homes for hard-working families in need of decent housing.??

The UW-Madison chapter of Habitat for Humanity also helps the organization with 150 student volunteers.''

""The money raised from the show will go directly to the Dane County chapter of Habitat,"" Koth said. ""Six new homes will be built starting in May, and 50 new homes will be built in the Twin Oaks suburb in the next five years.""

The concert also serves as a CD release party for Natty Nation. They will be releasing of full, uncut, live sets of music. The CDs are limited editions and available only at live shows. Natty Nation is also busy in the studio recording their sixth album.

The benefit will feature other special guests, including Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, who will declare April 16 ""Habitat for Humanity of Dane County Day."" The emcee of the concert will be radio personality Pat Gallagher from 105.5 Triple M radio.

Natty Nation encourages everyone to become involved with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Konkol said, ""Keep it positive and get involved in your life and your community.""

Tickets are still available for the show, and people of all ages are invited to attend.
