UW-Madison sophomore Audrey Seiler's lawyer, Randy Hopper, appeared in Dane County Court Thursday on her behalf. Hopper will seek a plea agreement to avoid trial for Seiler, who was charged Wednesday with two misdemeanor counts of obstructing officers, according to WISCTV.com.
Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard said in a phone interview it is common to try to resolve criminal cases without a trial.
Blanchard confirmed he would be speaking with Seiler's attorneys about the possibility but would not elaborate on her case. He added Seiler's case is currently in the early stages of criminal proceedings.
\If we can resolve it without a trial, we certainly will,"" Blanchard said.
Hopper did not enter a plea Thursday in response to Seiler's misdemeanor charges, according to The Capital Times. Seiler is currently free on signature bond. If convicted, Seiler could face a maximum jail sentence of nine months and a maximum fine of $10,000 for each charge.
Seiler was reported missing March 27 and found March 31 in a marsh near the Alliant Energy Center, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way. According to a criminal complaint released Wednesday, Seiler lied to officers when she was found and in interviews April 1.
