Wisconsin junior Matt Tegenkamp was named Big Ten co-player of the week Monday. Tegenkamp split the honor with Indiana sophomore Sean Jefferson.
Tegenkamp earned the award after breaking a UW record in the 5,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC relays Saturday. He ran a 13:30.9, taking 10th overall and third at the relays among collegiate athletes. He also set a NCAA regional qualifying mark with his strong run. Nike's Jonathon Riley won the event with a 13:21.11 mark.
John Easker set the previous UW mark with of 13:37.2 in 1985.

Tegenkamp has also set UW records this year in indoor 3,000- and 5,000- meter runs.
